Diversity and Inclusion

Our group is composed of individuals from diverse scientific and personal backgrounds who bring their talents, willingness to strive, and work ethic to all of our professional and social activities. We are committed to treating each other with respect, dignity, fairness, caring, equality, to help build and maintain each other’s self-esteem, and to support each other in our collective achievements.

Increasing diversity and inclusion in science and improving scientist development have been a major priority over the 22 years the Koleske Lab has been at Yale. As lead instructor in the Introductory Yale College Biology 100 series, Tony Koleske, along with others in the teaching team, introduced special enrichment sections aimed at supporting students underprepared in science, including many from under-represented groups. These interventions increased persistence in STEM majors among self-identified underprepared students, as measured by total number of additional STEM courses taken and have been adopted by other STEM departments at Yale.

We are also deeply committed to mentoring students across all career stages so that they develop relevant scientific and laboratory skills as well as other vital career skills required to succeed in diverse careers.  Tony Koleske and members of the Koleske Group support students pursuing career training activities (e.g. teaching, writing) outside of lab.  PhD trainees in our lab win awards and go on to distinguished careers at Yale and beyond… Check out “Former Members” page to see where all of our graduates have gone off to!
